A US agency received court dates for all the families that were in this abandonment delay. The court date that was given was for the week after next. The families originally had a court date on May 8th. They agency reported to the families that they do not have MOWA letters, but the judge requested to the MOWA to complete the letters prior to the court date given the families. The agency stated the judge feels that this can take place for the MOWA to get the letters written prior to the court date.

  1. Wow, that seems like huge progress!
We are adopting through a Canadian agency and are having a real tough time getting any info. In fact, they haven't even confirmed that the ban is officially lifted for all abandonment cases.... Is anyone else adopting through a Canadian agency and having the same problem?

This blog has been a real help to keep us up to date as to what is going on.

  2. We are also in Canada and have gotten no concrete information from our agency either. We would be completely in the dark if it wasn't for this blog!

  3. Does that mean that the judge requested MOWA to write the letters just for those families' court date, or for anybody affected by the ban who now has a July court date? We have a court date next week, and do not have a letter as far as we know.

  4. Has anyone's in-country rep been able to find out if the courts plan to hear all of the cases before the closings?

  5. I don't know when our original court date was but I do know that we had one in May within a week of the closings. Are courts making new dates based on the old ones?

  6. Hooray for the progress!!!! I keep hearing "soon." I do not know what that means but it is better than hearing "I don't know" and nothing.

  7. No anon 3:00, they seem to be making it by agency and/or orphanage, not when your original court date was.

  8. Thanks anon3:04. Thanks for everything!!! Without you answers and info would be even more sparse than it already is. You have done a real mitzvah (yiddish for good deed).

  10. We didn´t get a MOWA´s letter yesterday, when we had a court date. This would be a big thing if you will get the letter before the July 24. We we are hoping best for you.

  12. Has anyone heard anything about abandon cases that were open before the ban? Are they being heard along with the rest? Given new court dates or just lost in a pile? Our case was open due to paperwork not being completed by MOWA and then the ban came and here we sit not knowing where we are in all of this.
