Several abandonment cases with new court dates scheduled for early next week have been rescheduled till the end of the July due to MOWA being closed.

Please note that there are now at least 6 agencies with new court dates scheduled and at least 8 more that have indicated they expect to get new dates soon.

  1. we just got a new court date of july 27th and our agency told us that MOWA will do the letter the day before. this is a date after the rumored MOWA closure, so we feel safely optimistic!

  2. I'm really happy for all the families that have passed or are getting court dates. On the other hand, we do not hear anything from our agency and I fear that due to the very short window of opportunity between Mowa closure and court closure, many of us will have to endure this painful process until October.

  3. I hear ya, anon. We've heard nothing about a court date. Very depressing.

  4. It is exciting that there is movement and at least some people are getting dates. I never thought our adoption would look like this, but man, it will be amazing when I hold him for the first time. I never thought I'd be pregnant for 2 years! Congrats to all who are getting good news and thanks for sharing. Praying for all those who are still waiting.

  5. Has anyone heard anything about abandon cases that were open before the ban? Are they being heard along with the rest? Given new court dates or just lost in a pile? Our case was open due to paperwork not being completed by MOWA and then the ban came and here we sit not knowing where we are in all of this

  8. This is true for us... our daughter was abandoned in Addis and is presently in a transition home.

We have not heard any news from our agency.

I am very happy for those whose cases are moving and have high hopes that our turn will come soon.

  9. Anon 2:38 am:Our kid has been found in Addis, i. e. is an abandonment case, and is living in a transition home. But our rep went to court last Wed and now we are waiting for a court date, he seemed to be convinced to get one. Thus, our case is ok.

  12. Anon 2:38 AM.
...we have had two court dates already. First was in June and the second one was last week.
Now we don´t have a new court date but we are hoping to have in July´s last week.

We still believe, that having a court date won´t absolutelu be solution, if MOWA doen´t write acceptance letters.

Maggie we will hope best for you and the others also.

  14. Our agency is hoping to have court dates for us this week (and I certainly hope they will be before summer closure). Our child is abandoned in Addis and has been in a private orphanage. We have been affected by the ban. It is my clear perception, that the ban is lifted for all cases (anon July 11, 2:38).
