An email:

FYI. A friend from a different agency had their (first) court date today. It's an abandoned in Addis case. They didn't pass due to a paperwork issue, but as far as they know their case WAS heard.

  1. I'm sorry.

Perhaps the court makes a difference between old cases being on hold and new cases. I don't understand them.

  2. Of course, I feel sorry for this familiy - just to avoid any misunderstanding.

  3. It doesn´t give much hope for those who have court date (abandonment cases)this week :(

  4. I have contacted the state department and they have not confirmed the ban being lifted. When I mentioned the rumors of cases and they mentioned that perhaps they are from the three orphanages that were previously cleared. I am not hopeful at this point that our case will be heard before the closing.

  5. This case was not from one of the 3 government orphanages.

It's disappointing that they didn't pass, but a good sign for us that they're hearing abandonment cases again

  7. To Anon at 2:13. It took the officials a long time to know what was going on back in May, I doubt they are up to the minute with new decisions. I feel confident everything will work itself now.

  8. I am (as is my agency) confident that they are really going to try to get these cases through before closure wether the state dept says anything at this time or not.

  9. My (US) agency also said that think any cases that they are hearing are new cases not the ones that were put on hold in May but they were not sure. According to my agency MOWA and the courts still have steps to take before the ban will be lifted and cases will be heard again. I agree with the post about the closings - it is not looking good unless MOWA and the courts really hustle with the final stages of this ban. My agency is still optimistic that we could make the closings but I am not. I know that our reps will be at the ready when the courts announce they will hear these cases again but who knows when that will be.

  10. Oh great did you see what they posted? http://impresseduponourhearts.blogspot.com/2009/07/more-information.html
MOWA is closing untill 24th of July. How annoying is that!
Well, I can't manage worrying about any more closures, procedure changes, meetings, etc. I just hope that things will work out so we can get our little baby girl soon.

  11. Just because they posted it does not mean it is true. My agency did not say anything about that and I spoke to them today.

  12. GREAT news that their case was heard. bummer they didn't pass :( i went to their blog...they're with AWAA apparently. i know a family with AWAA and she told me, two weeks ago, that they were told (by the agency) that "cases would be heard starting july 2nd and the courts will stay open til august 7th". such authority! this statement has not been found to be true, SO my point is that this family's post about MOWA closing til July 24th may not be true. it just doesn't make sense, either. but then again...what has??!!

  13. Oh my goodness though, if it IS true that they're closing till the 24th (and therefore not writing any letters) I'm going to go jump off a cliff, I think. How could that be possible? People have mid-July court dates already and MOWA needs to write a letter for all cases. So are they just going to let all the cases from now to July 24th not pass?

  14. My agency confirmed mowa will be closed for two weeks

  16. i think i'm going to be sick. NONE of this makes any sense and it just keeps getting worse. how is this possible? could they (ET) do anything more to be less productive in this matter? unbelievable.

  17. My agency (US) has also confirmed the MOWA closure for two weeks starting tomorrow. This is the first official confirmation we have received of anything happening related to our case.

  18. I can't believe I am shocked by this rumor (fact?) about MOWA closing for training. The timing makes NO sense unless it is related to new rules regarding abandonment cases. That leaves a mere two weeks to hear all these cases before the closure. I'm at a loss and this ends my hope of getting our son home before November.

  19. I'm at a loss, too. I don't understand this AT ALL. I'm just...speechless. And angry. And hopeless. They will not hear all these cases between July 24th and beginning of August, they just can't possibly fit them all in. If they really are still going to close for the rainy season, then I can't believe they're doing this to us, to the children.

  20. Maybe they are closing NOW instead of later~

  21. I think MOWA and the court are two different things, right? The court is open (and supposedly reps are taking their cases there tomorrow), but MOWA isn't going to be writing letters. What does this mean for people with mid-July court dates?

  22. MOWA and the courts are two different things. The problem with this is that MOWA needs to read the report by the police before anything can proceed and if they are closed then delays the process two more weeks. Hmmm...I think that I have to just set my sights on Nov/Dec at this point. Very disappointing.

  23. Maybe, they have already written the letters. I will think happy thoughts until I hear otherwise.

  24. Anon 3:53, that quote from AWAA is completely inaccurate. This is the problem with all these rumors flying around.

EthioPAP, thank you so much for all your hard work on this site; I'm now going to attempt to unglue myself from it. I will continue to pray for all involved and hope that this ordeal will finally end soon!
