An email (European agency):

Our agency has informed us this morning that the rumors of the decision following the court should have announced this week and to be imminent. Unknown if the cases involved for which the trial took place during this period of time required new trial date or not. Think not. Hope so.

*Updated: This person has clarified a little using their case as an example. Their court date was on May 29th. All of their documents were submitted to the court, but of course their case was not heard because it was for a child abandoned in Addis. The orphanage this child resides has been investigated and cleared. The agency has suggested that cases like this may not require a new court date. The agency believes they may just sign the necessary paperwork to pass the case.

  4. I think the first part is the same news we've been hearing, that the court was supposed to announce their decision this week but instead will do it soon. Hopefully the person will clarify the second part for us. English is their second language.

  5. Maybe it means this agency is agreeing that there will be a decision announced this week or next week (imminent)? "The cases involved for which the trial took place" - I wasn't aware they were specific cases; I thought it was the system. But could also mean all the missed cases. And they don't think these cases will need a new court date? Maybe that means they think the skipped cases will be heard without setting an actual new date?
Fun to try and decipher this one!
    Any other guesses?

  7. There were 17 cases that were suspicious. Maybe those are the ones they meant? Or abandonment cases in general? I thought the last part meant that they won't need new court dates. But then the person said "hope not", so maybe not :-)

  9. I mean for example that we have trial date on 29th May, and our representative presented the papers but the judge stopped, according to rumors that in these cases the papers will be signed directly, do not proceed to a new date trial, as our agency belive. They have been several years in Ethiopia

  10. Do you mean, that the judge is going to take all the papers and just sign them one after the other on one day???

  11. So the suggestion is that we may not even need new court dates?.....that they would all just get signed off on?
That would be marvelous....but that seems like it would be pretty unlikely, doesn't it?

  15. At least this would be a very pragmatic way to get all these cases done in a fast way. Of course I would welcome this procedure. But to be honest, I do not believe in it :-(

  16. I am happy that I was not the only one who understood nothing. :-) Thank you for the explanation, ese eres.

As far as I know each case needs a summarising letter from MOWA and that this letter is issued on the day of the court date or the day before. Thus, maybe they can deal with our cases by going through unofficial channels, i. e.without bureaucracy.

  17. i WISH they would do it that way! I don't think they will, I can't see them doing that, but it would be great if they did!

  18. Thanks for the explanation and the news, ese eres! I hope that what your agency thinks is what really happens. That would be wonderful!!! Strange, but wonderful! On second thought, maybe not so strange because maybe they have gone over each case during the investigation.

  19. Can anybody try to "confirm" this with its agency? My agency does not provide me with any information, therefore, it does not make sense for me to ask them.

  20. Thank you ese eres, We are from Galicia, Spain and our court date was 05/june but it wasn't done and we don't know nothing more. Tomorrow, i will try to contact with my agency for asking updated news. These would be wonderful news

  21. We were in Addis Abbeba on the day the court was meant to pass the adoption (May 11th, the day that the ban was made official). Our representative explained to us in a very firm manner that our case and all other cases involving abandoned children had been closed. He said he would have to go through the whole procedure of applying for a new court date again once the ban would eventually be lifted. So I'm afraid that it is just wishful thinking that the papers just need to be signed for an adoption to pass!

  22. I agree it sounds too good to be true. I think we should always remeber that a hope can become an expectation and an expectation can become news when passed via different people, cultures and languages, against the best intentions of all people involved. The only fact so far is that the investigation is not over yet because it has not been declared over by the local authirities. Hopefully they will do so next week.

  23. Many representatives explain things in a firm manner, but that doesn't make what they are saying a fact anymore than these rumors substantiated by more than one agency are fact. Is it so wrong to have a little hope after all this time?
