An email was received this morning from a US agency that gives daily updates:
Our director from our US agency is now in Addis Ababa. They have learned that the investigation is indeed over with the five orphanages have been cleared. The director is hoping to hear something by Friday on how all the families will proceed at this point.

Thanks for the person who provided this update from their agency. I hope the investigation really is over.
ReplyDeleteyes, thanks for sharing :) it's been 6 weeks since we heard of the delay and i keep thinking "any day now". so it's nice to hear SOMETHING even if it's not exactly what we have been waiting for!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the investigation is not over at all - just that more orphanages have been cleared. We should not get ahead of ourselves. First the entire investigation needs to end - whethere there are two different investigations - one police and one orphanage - or just one all-encompasing investigation. Once the that happens the ban will be lifted and then court dates can be revisited. We should not fool ourselves into thinking that this is over when it clearly is not.
ReplyDeleteWell if there is indeed a broad investigation into why there are more abandonment cases, then I would start being very pessimistic. Such an investigation, which would be against unknown individuals and unknown causes would certainly last for a very, very long time. Let's hope the only investigation(s) are against specific individuals (policemen, orphanages) and for specific issues.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, I'm very optimistic now, and I think the ban will soon be lifted. The five orphanages mentioned must obviously be the five that were in focus, and once they are cleared that must in effect apply to all others as well. I think the ban is related to this "big" investigation, and not to the case with the 17 children - however they were related, because that was the case alarming the judges.
ReplyDeleteI am optimistic too! Just a matter of time....
ReplyDeleteI think we are facing three challenges:
ReplyDelete1) The ban
2) The fact that once the ban is lifted a system to hear cases will need to be created
3) Rainy season recess is rapidly approaching
I have come to peace of the possibilty of not getting our baby until fall. Its better that we get through this than not at all.
ReplyDeleteMaybe (hopefully!) the investigation re. orphanges affects us, i. e. we will get new court dates soon, and the other big investigation only affects future cases.
ReplyDeleteWe must be optimist!!!
ReplyDeleteMy agency told me today that the investigation (they confirmed only one) will probably be over at the end of June and they are convinced that the court will not postpone the closure.
ReplyDeleteThus, a lot of us will have to wait until fall. :-(
Does it bother anyone else that children who are definitely not caught up in the questionable cases are being kept in orphanages when they don't need to be? It is completely outrageous and completely NOT in the best interest of these children or other children that there could be room for if our children could come home!!! It is great to be patient and optimistic for our individual cases but in general the way the government is handling this at this point really pisses me off!!
ReplyDeleteI hear you. Our child is NOT from one of the suspected sub-cities, NOT from one of the 5 orphanages, was abandoned long before the increase in cases and I'm wondering why she's stuck in this mess.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. I really just wish everyone a speedy tavel date and homecoming. No matter how our agencies spin it, we are being strung along like puppets - G-d forbid people should try and do something good to help these kids out. As you can tell - I am at the VERY angry stage.
ReplyDeleteI agree that I am very frustrated, but wouldn't you all like to know sooner rather than later that your children were abandoned and not stolen? I don't know how anyone would handle it if in 3 years I found out my son's family was alive and well and actually wanted him. This sucks, but in the long run I think it will save alot of heart ache.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many children abandoned in Ethiopia, because of reasons we all know.
ReplyDeleteWhy should children be stolen? Okay, if it is for the reason that the child should be only one month old, okay, this could be a reason.
But our children are already staying in their children-homes for several month now.
It is ridiculous to me...
Because childre ARE stolen around the world and put up for adoption that is not ridiculous that is a fact. Especially in very poor countries with many children. I totally agree with Anon. from 1:28 PM, I think we must not be naive or selfish. For sure this could have been taken care of quicker or more transparently (with more information) in one of our countries, but we live in a different world. But I am very satisfied that in the coming years when I will talk to my daughter about adoption and corruption then I can say, that Ethiopia - the fantastic second country of our family - did everything they could to prevent that sort of thing and to make sure that she was really abandoned.
ReplyDeleteI really really hope tomorrow is D-Day! And I hope that no news are good news as everybody is waiting for the final court decision. All good thoughts to the Ethiopian judges and authorities involved.
ReplyDeletei am hoping this week will be the end-6 weeks is long enough
ReplyDeleteI am not directly affected by this, but I have been following this blog, praying for all of you families that your cases will find resolution soon. I hope that coming on 6-weeks will mark the end to this torture for you and your children who are innocently caught up in this. Praying for an end to this and for new court dates for you all ..... truly from the bottom of my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!!!
