From a US Agency that gives daily updates :
The orphanages that are affected by the abandonment issue are supposed to go and ask that the ban be lifted concerning the abandoned children. At this time we do not know what the result will be but I’ll let you know what we find out. This hopefully will take place within the next week or so. This is all of the information that I have regarding this at this time.

While I have been told it is best to stay out of the affairs of the Ethiopian courts, I think we should put pressure on our organizations to insure that the usual court recess period is postponeed until these cases are heard. This should be a priority.
ReplyDeleteWhat about transitional houses that some babies and kids go to from the orphanages? is it the same deal? someone from there needs to go to the courts too?
ReplyDeleteAnon 5:18 PM - I do not believe that teh transit-homes do have to go to the court as may agency told me that the child's first orphanage is responsible for it and has to do the paperwork.
ReplyDeleteOur agency tells us that when your child is in a transition home, the courts look at it as they are still in the orphanage. Basically, the orphanage is still has the legal rights on the child, so even if your child is in a transition home the orphanage has the jurisdiction over the child. Our agency tells us also that it’s more like a privilege to be able to take the child to the transit home and requires a good relationship with the orphanage. But the courts will look at it as if the child is still in the orphanage. In fact! When our agency notified the families that our cases were not heard, they even told us they (courts) didn’t even know that our children were in our agencies transition home!
