This is a tip I received; we're not sure of the agency, but we think it's Adoption Avenues:
The children with the suspicious cases were all from the same part of Addis, according to our agency director. He says the courts are talking about hearing abandoned child cases from other parts of the city. Hopefully they'll start doing this soon!
I apologize profusely for any misunderstanding...I meant we think this tidbit of info came from someone at Adoption Avenues, NOT that Adoption Avenues is in any way involved!! I'm so sorry for the confusion.

does anyone have ANY idea when they might start hearing abandoned cases again?
ReplyDeleteI have heard this too. My agency has a conference call set up with the familes this has affected tommorow. Will pass along anything I hear!
ReplyDeleteAnon #2, PLEASE do pass along anything you hear! I know there are a lot of us anxious for any info we can get. Thanks! :-)
ReplyDeleteWOW! How incredibly irresponsible of you to post that you "think" it's Adoption Avenues. I'm an AP with AA, & can tell you for a FACT that our agency is in NO WAY linked to the current scandal (the investigation has revealed it was ONE policeman would "found" 17 children in ONE sector of Addis. In fact, action has already been taken again the policeman and the agency involved has ALREADY lost it's license in Ethiopia.)
ReplyDeleteAA only works with ONE orphanage in Ethiopia, it's Le Toukoul, and is a French NGO. It's been in Ethiopia since the 1980s and has a stellar reputation. www.sosenfantsethiopie.com
I understand that many families who are with larger organizations get upset when AA is able to give out referrals quite quickly, but I can assure you, this has nothing to do with unethical dealing, rather, it is because only 3 US agencies use Toukoul and AAA only uses Toukoul (our old agency, who was equally ethical, utilized 7 different orphanages in-country, which caused the need for "wait lists.") PLEASE STOP spreading guess, congecture and assumptions, which only hurt, not help other IAP.
Meg, I'm so so sorry I was misunderstood! I meant we think this information comes from AA, NOT that Adoption Avenues is in any way unethical. I will clarify my post immediately!
ReplyDeleteAnon #2 - did you get any information from the conference call your agnecy was having today?
