Courts open

At least one US agency confirmed today the courts are now open. Good luck to those with court dates this week!

Updated: Another US agency announced today (10/13) that the courts are indeed open.

  2. Our agency sent out a mass email stating that courts did not re-open today. Can anyone confirm?

  3. Anon #2, if you email me with your agency (I will keep it anonymous), I will add your information about the courts to the post. Thank you!

  5. Has anyone heard anything else about the courts? Our agency has said nothing else to us about if courts were still closed or not. Yesterday we received a mass email saying the courts continued to be closed. Can anyone give me any other information?

  7. our agency has not confirmed yet either. but we get a weekly update this afternoon so I'll report back. I think they more or less go in order of referral date but not precisely. It could vary agency to agency though.

  11. We got an email from our US agency saying courts were open.It also stated that the training was for new judges and staff and that all previous judges had resigned.
    Not sure what this means.

  12. I passed court today!! Whoo hoO!

  13. Our case was apparently left open all during the closure and we only needed them to reopen to pass, but the new judges closed open cases when they came back on Monday. So we now have to wait for a new court date.

  14. OK, I think it's pretty safe to say courts are open now.

What do we know as far as the process of assignments? I've heard that those who filed before the closure are getting assigned first. Then I hear that open cases are now closed and need to be re-filed. And everyone else to the back of the line?

If that is true about the open cases being closed now, then wouldn't people who have had 3 or 4 court dates be put behind all the people who filed before courts closed for their first court date?

  15. That's a good question Anon 11:04. I hope they would be given some priority if it's not their first date, despite the case being "closed".

I'm really concerned about what Anon 8:23 said. Why on earth would ALL the previous judges resign? That's rather scary.

  16. We are the 9:45 post and just found out that our new court date is October 21st. I'm not sure how they are reassigning, but does seem we were given a date quickly-- which is great considering this will be attempt number 4. :(

  17. We had a court date of 10/7 and then moved to 10/12....we have not been heard yet! We have also not been assigned another date. We are so fustrated and want a new date so badly.

  18. Poster 9:45 and 1:12,
SO glad you got a date sooner rather than later!
We are also waiting to hear when our FOURTH court date will be.
    (not an abandonment case).
We had to have some paperwork corrected by MOWA, and our case was submitted today, the 14th. We are supposed to hear of our court assignment "in a few days".
When was your file submitted? Please let me know how long it took them to give you a date :)
    Your post gave me hope!

  19. Anon 8:23 - The notification we received from our agency said "reassigned," not resigned.

  20. We just got word from our agency that they have received a few dates and the courts appear to be assigning dates at random, without regard to when they were filed for.

  21. Poster 11:24- our case was left open during the clousure because all we were missing was a valid ID card from the relinquishing relative. He appeared in court, didn't have a valid ID and then never made it back to Addis before they closed. Our MOWA approval and paperwork were ok and don't need to be redone (so I have been told). We just need the relative to appear in court with his newly aquired ID card and we should pass.
I think they resubmitted our case on Monday when they heard it had been closed and got the call yesterday giving us the new date.
Hope and pray you get a date soon!!

  22. Can we get a new thread about what dates are being assigned, whether it's the first date or a reassigned date, and DTE and referral dates?

  23. Does anybody know about when MOWA instituted a new rule requiring 5 days notice to prepare court documents (instead of the previous 1 day notice)?
